2- Use the expressions above and respond to the following situation.
A- My name is Frank. I’m 18 years old.
I have a serious problem. So I want you to help me. I hate school. I cannot
stand my school so I skip it almost every day. Luckily, I am a smart person and
I'm in all of the advanced classes and don't have a reputation as a rebel. Only
the people who really know me know about my strange feelings. My parents don't
care - they don't even mention it if I don't go to school. What I end up doing
is sleeping all day and then staying up all night talking to my girlfriend. I
get behind in my work and when I try to go back to school,
my teachers and friends mistreat me. I just get so depressed when I think about
it. I have given up on trying going back and now am considering dropping out
altogether, but I really don't want to do that because I realize it would ruin
my life. I don't want to go back at all but I also don't want it to ruin my
life. I am so confused and I have really tried to go back and just can't take
it. What should I do? Please help.

Things to remember
about asking for and giving advice:
When giving and asking for advice, students usually don’t
pay attention to the distinction between the verb and the noun.
1. "Advise" is a
verb. It ends with “se” and it is pronounced /ədˈvaɪz/
Example:
“You looked
equally nice in both dresses - I wouldn't know which one to advise you
to buy.”
“The personnel
manager will be pleased to advise you.”
“We need you to advise
us on how to proceed.”
“His doctor advised
him not to take any strenuous exercise.”
“We
were advised to book early if we wanted to get a room.”
“I advise you to learn English. You will
undoubtedly need it in your higher studies”
- "Advice" is a noun. It
ends with “ce” and it is pronounced /ədˈvaɪs/
Example:
“The centre
provides expert advice for people with financial problems.”
“I decided to
follow her advice and go to bed early.”
“The service
offers young people practical advice on finding a job.”
“I've always
valued her advice.
“You
should get some legal advice before you take any further action.”
“My father gave me this piece of advice when I was young: never give up”
2. “You'd better” is the short form of
“you had better”
Example:
“You’d better sleep early” =
"You had better sleep early”
“You'd better see a doctor!" = "You had
better see the
doctor”
